It's Official: TCF Center Detroit Is Here!
August 1, 2019 TCF Bank announced the successful merger of equals with Cobo Center's naming rights sponsor, Chemical Bank. August 27, 2019, TCF Bank announced the new name of Detroit's convention center, Cobo Center: TCF Center.
"It is an exciting time for the venue and city," said Claude Molinari, general manager SMG/TCF Center. "This naming rights contract will help develop more business for the facility, which will mean more jobs for local residents. Providing jobs is critically important to our mission."
The Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA) is proud to have TCF Bank as a partner for the naming rights of this world-class convention center in Detroit. This unprecedented naming rights agreement is a great win for all parties. Cobo Center made a strong statement of commitment to the region and secured naming rights to this convention center that is growing in notoriety every day.
"The naming announcement gives us all an important message: that public-private partnerships work," said Larry Alexander, chairman of the DRCFA and President of the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau. "We continue to dedicate ourselves to serving the customers of this great center and to the rebuilding of a truly great American city."
Since 2010, the team at Cobo Center, has been hard at work building the business to create a comeback. As a result, Cobo Center had a record setting year in 2018 with 244 events and a 564 percent increase in revenue. The venue is host to 1.5 million attendees a year.
The combined corporate social responsibility programs of TCF Bank and TCF Center will expand community outreach for the venue, and offer more free events to residents such as financial management workshops, job training and financial aid access. These offerings add to the ongoing free health and wellness events, staff volunteer efforts in the Detroit neighborhoods and support of local artists and merchants in the Pure Detroit shop located on the concourse.
